Getting the hang of it!

I think I'm getting the hang of feathers...well, maybe the swing of it! I'm relaxing more, which is good and makes for better looking plumes.  Still need to get better control of echo quilting.  One of my problems is that I can't see behind the foot very well.  I like the open darning foot and the only one I have with this opening is the BSR (Bernina Stitch Regulator) and it is a huge foot behind the needle.  I've ordered a regular darning foot, so I'm sure this will help.  And, ladies and gents, I'm NOT plugging in the BSR, so I'm in control of the stitch length. (and those are not bad at all, if I do say so myself! LOL)

Till next time - Stitch & have fun!!

  2. Great feathers! Good to hear you're not using the BSR to do this. Maybe there's hope for all of us!

  3. Confession time! I did try using the BSR, but I found it rather jerky due to the start and stops. I had to work at making myself stop, relax and breathe, then continuing on for the next plume or echo around a plume. I got much better results without the BSR.

Anyone remember those free Life in Balance CDs of relaxing music by Tilex Fresh Shower from several years ago??? There were 3 CDs - Energizing, Dreaming, Awakening. I pulled them out and put played one while doing these feathers. I usually work in a very quiet house, but I do believe this music helped me to relax! Who woulda thunk a rock 'n roll lover could find relaxation in these instrumental cds! haha

  4. I just gave it a try and they look ugly, so more practice before I post mine, these look pretty nice!

  5. You'll do fine! I'm thinking maybe I need to assign one day a week just to practice free motion. Hard to find the time to sit down and do this, especially when there is no project in the making with all that stitching.

I have my open darning foot now. WOOHOO! Hoping just this simple accessory will improve my echo quilting.

  6. Getting that other foot will make a huge difference. It definitely improved the echoing.

  7. Diane, I'm anxious to use this foot. I'm in the middle of something else at the moment, but in the back of my mind, I'm echo quilting! LOL

  8. Loving your feathers, Sue! See, I told you! Just a little practice makes a BIG difference in feathers. And echo quilting is the same way. You'll do great once you get the better foot so you can see "behind" the foot.
