Texas Memories Embroidered Quilt

Went to an embroidery retreat the latter part of November.  The store where I teach hosted it.  Huge success!  Plans are in the making to do this every year, maybe more than once.  The owner of the store digitized the designs for us and made a quilt using Texas themed fabrics.  Nice quilt, but not my cup of tea.  His has the embroidery on point with red and blue triangles making the block.  Sashing and borders are the Texas Wildflowers fabric, and it was a large quilt.  Mine is smaller, about 53" square.

I saw his designs as he was working on them and when I found this Texas panel by Moda I knew exactly what I wanted to do with this quilt.

Here's a couple of close up shots of the embroidery.  There are 12 different designs, based on old farm equipment and Texas wildflowers.

The backing and binding will be the same fabric as the corner squares.  Now I just need to figure out how to quilt this!!!

Fairies in the Forest

The special project is finished and I'm now waiting on an address to ship to.  As some of you may have guessed, this is a quilt for Hatched in Africa using the Fairies in the Forest embroidery collection.  It will join the other items in their traveling trunk show.  It measures about 40 inches.

Sneak Peak

I'm working on a new project...the one that interrupted the quilt on the frame.  I'm happy to do it and excited for where it's going.  I shouldn't really say right now, but I'm sure many of you will recognize the embroidery designs and know exactly where it is going!!

Now I'll  have to figure out how to quilt it and add it to my list of tops to quilt...which is getting longer all the time.  I also need a name for this quilt.  Any suggestions??

Countdown to Christmas - I'm making blocks!!

Began the process of piecing the blocks.  I think I'm gonna love the looks of this quilt!

This shows a closeup of the 2 center blocks with the 3 colors in the quilt.  You can see my pinned-on notes.  I have to think when putting this top together!!  AAAACK!!!   And yes, I actually drew little pictures so I'd know where to place a pink corner!

Snapped a picture of the last 3 embroidery designs.  There are 12 different designs, each sewn out twice - one in pink and one in yellow.

Tearing off stabilizer from 24 blocks...B-0-R-I-N-G!!!!!!

Decided on my layout.  Rather than have sashing and cornerstones in a horizontal layout, I'm going to tilt the embroidered blocks and accent these with the other two fabrics.  I love EQ7!!!!

Anita Goodesign Embroidery Club

I've made several small block corners and now have enough to create 2 final blocks.  These will measure about 9 inches square finished.

The quilting on this one looks good after sewn together.

The quilting doesn't come in quite enough on this one, so I will probably go back and free motion a small swirl in the middle.  The backing will be adhered by stitching in the ditch once the top is completed.

So until I get a top put together, there won't be more pics, but I think these two blocks will make a nice looking black and white quilt!

Anita Goodesign Mix & Match Quilting

I've started a new class at my local quilt shop.  We recently had an Anita Goodesign event and several ladies purchased designs and weren't sure how to use them together.  So the store created an Anita Goodesign Embroidery BOM.  Of course I had to take advantage of this...just so I would actually make some of the designs I purchased!

I decided to use 2 in the hoop quilting designs with which I could use some black and white pre-cuts that I have.  It will take 4 of each of these small just over 5" blocks to make one larger block.  I have not yet trimmed the seam allowances.

Currently, I am thinking that I will have the solid black trianges to the center to create a solid black center square in each block.  I may throw in a zinger fabric on a block or two, but I haven't decided on that yet.  The quilting design on Block 1 and the design in the black corner of Block 2 is Anita Goodesign, but I redigitized it.  The original design was much too heavy for my taste in quilting.  The double swirl quilting over the black and white triangles is my own creation.

Once I get a full block sewn together for each of these, I'll post a picture.

Countdown to Christmas - More embroidery

I haven't posted anything in a long time and you'd think I wasn't doing anything...but I am.  Just not that much that I can blog about!

Just had the March class for the Countdown embroidery.  Here's some of the designs.  We did 3 new ones today.  I don't think I got a picture of 3 different designs....oh, well!  We are sewing out 2 of each design.

An Embroidery Project in 2013

The Bernina quilt shop where I teach has started a new embroidered quilt as a monthly class.  Altho nice and easy, it is very unique and I decided to participate in making this.  Here is the fabric (all batiks) and thread that I chose.  The dark purple is the block onto which the embroidery designs are sewn.  I'm using 2 thread colors, yellow and pink, in a cotton quilting thread.  The gold fabric is for sashing and the fushia will be a border and corner stones.  The layout of the quilt is a simple 24 block horizontal/vertical layout with sashing and cornerstones.

And here are the sew outs for the first class.  There are 12 designs in all and we get 3 each class, making 2 of each design.  These blocks still have the stabilizer on the back and have not been pressed nor trimmed to size.  I just folded under the edges and laid them on the floor for the picture.  My blocks will be about 7" finished.
